Minnesota Immigration Crackdown Ends After 4,000 Arrests
The U.S. border tsar, Tom Homan, recently made a formal announcement on the closing of Operation Metro Surge, a sweeping immigration operation carried out in the state of Minnesota and involving more than 2,000 U.S. agents, resulting in over 4,000 arrests. Although Agent Homan cites Operation Metro Surge as an operational success, forcing local officials to cooperate and clearing dangerous criminals from the streets, there was a defining backlash and national protests against the operation due to the fatal shooting of two U.S. citizens by U.S. agents. The surge of the agents, although on a high scale at the moment, is being drawn down under President Trump's approval, although a permanent presence from the federal authorities is to remain within the state to transition to local field offices.
